What are the Different Types of EV Charging Plugs?

2024 Acura ZDX charging

The electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid market is growing by leaps and bounds as more Montclair and Clifton drivers make the switch from gasoline to electric motors. If you’re considering an EV like the Acura ZDX SUV, you should consider the different EV charging plug types. There are three EV charger types, and they all work slightly differently and deliver different results. Take a look at the DCH Montclair Acura guide to EV charger plugs and EV charging connector types so you’re ready to hit the road in your new EV as soon as possible. And don’t forget to check our EV information hub to learn more about Acura EVs and the EV lifestyle.

EV Charger Types

When you use an EV charger in Bloomfield or Verona, you’ll likely notice that some have different EV charger plugs. There are three EV charging connector types. They are:

The North American Charging Standard (NACS)

This EV charger plug was only compatible with Tesla vehicles, and there are over 19,000 of these EV charging connector types in the U.S. It’s the fastest EV charger type of the three. Until now, the NACS Supercharger EV charging connector type has only been compatible with Tesla models, but now Acura EVs are NACS-compatible through an adapter. This gives Acura EV drivers a benefit that drivers of other EVs won’t have—access to the world’s largest charging network without having to buy an EV charger plug adapter kit.

Combined Charging System (CCS)

Your Acura ZDX can also be charged through CCS stations. Most non-Tesla EVs are equipped with this type of EV charger type. It’s the second-fastest EV charger plug, and you’ll find it at most public charging stations, including Electrify America and EVGo. When you purchase an Acura EV, you’ll be able to choose a complimentary charging plan from either of these companies if you’re a first-time EV owner.

Charge de Move (CHAdeMO)

The slowest of the three fast-charging EV charger types, you’ll find CHAdeMO sockets primarily on Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Outlander EV models. It’s the least common EV charger plug type and is not compatible with Acura models.
